    well how nice!!!
so i get up to go check on my snakes, whitch always do.i have a habit of doing this but anyway like i was saying i went to go check on my bp's and one of the tanks heat bulbs went out and it had to been out for a while cause it was cold.i had 2 black bulbs and under the hot side a heat pad under the tank.my parents run the a/c 24 freakin 7 and it can get cold in here so i had to put the black light on the hot side and a white light on the cool side.i hated to this happend but i had to do it for my baby.i cant risk her getting sick and we dont have a exotic vet around so i pray to God all the time i never have troubles with my snakes or crested gecko.she is still active even tho i have the white light on.i have to have high powerd lights because its a huge tank.but anyways this sucks.its 2 am here and my momma goes to work at 5 and gets of at 2:30.ima get her to go to the wal mart, and get me 3 black lights.they are the same as the ones in the pet store.just cheaper.but i had to rant a little:rage:.

I've always had trouble with black lights dying on me, whether they're used for tanks or just decoration around the house they tend not to last long. I've tried the fluorescent and cfl black lights and they do seem to last a lot longer but tend not to be as bright. So instead when I want some kind of at-night lighting I use the green or blue colored cfl's. They're plenty bright enough for dark lighting. Green has been my favorite so far

I do miss it having since tinfoiled the top of the tank.

If your concern is keeping the tank hot enough, what have you done to insulate it? I thought about lining the sides & back of my tank with natural cork tile this past winter but ultimately didn't need to. Insulating the sides, doing the tin foil treatment, and having under tank heating should do a lot to keep things ok at night.

He said he had a heat pad under the tank on the hot side. Pretty sure he meant uth...at least I'm hoping he isn't using a heat pad anyway!

Would it be that bad if its fused and on a separate temp controller circuit? I figure the 3 default settings on household heat pads would probably get too hot but if it toned down with a rheostat it shouldn't be too bad [right?]. All a heat pad is, is a big resistor that throws off heat as waste.
