Baytril Question

Does/can baytril make a BP aggressive?

We gave Chloe her second shot today and a while later I went up to her tub and she was out of her hide. I bent down in front of her to have a look at her and she stuck at me and hit the tub. I've had her for 4 years and she has never struck at anything but a rat. She's always been more apt to run to her hide or ball up if I surprise her.

I head the drug can boost their appetite. So maybe it also makes them more aggressive?

Any ideas?

I wonder if it's just food aggression. I've got two that turn into cobras when they're hungry, and will strike at movement (makes it really exciting changing the water bowls). How is your girl doing?

Are you massaging the injection site after the shot? Baytril can be irritating

Yes. The vet said it would "piss her off a little if we did massage it. But it would piss her off a lot if we didn't." He also told us to not do the same side twice is row. So we did the opposite today of what he did on Friday.

She did eat Friday. I was planning on feeding her on a 5 day schedule to get her weight back up.

Baytril is not an appetite stimulant. Flagyl can be, but Baytril is known to do the opposite.

She's probably starting to correlate your presence with the shots.

Baytril isn't ph balanced for reptiles, so it burns. This is probably why your snake's crabby. As skiploader said baytril will usually cause them to go off feed while they are being treated, defiantly not an appetite stimulant.
If baytril isn't given between the scales it can cause discoloration and sometimes does even if it's given properly, but it does usually clear up an ri.

I have given baytril to a few different animals, including 2 bp's. None of them became aggressive after or during the injection. With the 2 bp's I never had to hold their heads at all while giving the injection.

your snake is under a lot of stress from being sick, adding more stress by treating it. do you think it's good to be feeding it and taking a chance of it regurging from all the added stress? unless this snake is in bad shape from not eating, ( I mean close to death) don't feed it.

mine is like that too.only at night though,so i do maintanence during the day,hahaha.with mine it sounds more like cage agression because shell do it after she digests a meal as well.i still take her out at night mostly,getting behind her and giving a light petting,snaps her out of it and i pick her up.

too the op it might be what Skiploder said and or her just getting really pissy and agressive from all that is going on.it can be a really stressful experience for em.after the treatment with some tlc shel be sweet again.

Well, I guess you missed the other thread I had. She had been MIA for a month and half. She had already been fassting on top of that. I was going to wait a few days but I was advised to try and feed anyway because she was likely to be very hungry.
