Is A. Versicolor a good starter t

I'm looking for some info on A. Versicolor. My partner wants a tarantula and since he's been so good about my snake habit, I feel he deserves one, he really likes this species but I wanted to get some info first. If anyone could point me to some good forums and caresheets I would appreciate it, also any suggestions for a good starter t would be great

A good starter T would be a terrestrial one. Something that doesn't need a high humidity level like the Versi. Any of your Brochypelma's or anything from the Grammostola breed.

They are not really a good starter T at all but if you read up on the versicolor, do your home work and are confident and comfortable with the requirements and the possibility of it not thriving in your care, then I don't see an issue with it being your first T if that is what your partners heart is set on. Avics can be a bit tricky to take care of and die as slings for no appearant reason at all which is a BIG reason why they are not really good starter T's. I would recommend getting a good size juvie to start with if it is your first and not a sling. They are very quick, can jump, shoot poop from their butts, require good cross ventilation, higher humidity, and more vertical then floor space. I have also seen quite a few versicolors that were overly defensive. It really is better to start with a terrestrial tarantula as your first but like I said if you do your home work and are confident with the care and such then go for it :salute:

Thanks everyone, he does really like their colors, but he doesn't totally have his heart set on one.

I does sound a little difficult to care for, that's why I asked here, all the caresheets I found left out all that stuff. I don't want to have any creature suffer from my inexperience so besides the other 2 species listed above, what is a good tarantula to begin with.

A few good starter T's:

Brachypelma smithi
Brachypelma emilia
Brachypelma albopilosum
Grammostola pulchra (jet black T but a bit pricey)

These all have the ability to kick urticating hairs which can be VERY ichy :D

Thanks Boanerges, that's just what I was looking for. Is there a good tarantula forum I can look up or a place to get good information. The google has been letting me down on this one.
