The agonizing wait...

I always knew there'd be a nice little wait till any new snake will feel comfortable enough to come outta his comfy hide and start movin around....and then theres the wait till you've gotten him to eat....its only been 5 days and I'm goin mental, lol. Of course I've been extra careful tp leave him be and let him do things on his own time...seems to be gettin there too as he's been a lot more active in his hide (as much as he can) and always turn to check me out whenever I brighten his hide area to check him out....looks pretty happy to me, which I love to see.

With glass aquarium display bulds what have been some of your times for them to come out (on their own) and feeding?.....I've heard wait 2-3 weeks after gettin em to try food. Opinions?

I never heard 2-3 weeks. I heard 5-7 days and then try... that's what I did.

I know I've seen it on a caresheets I've seen....o well. My queation is then what if he he still hasn't come out yet?...just dangle the food in front of his hide?

One week with no handling, then try to feed on the seventh day. That's what I do and it works.

What about them coming out of their hides? I haven't seen him yet (6th day)....he might be at night thou.

Just to let you two know, he ate on day 7 with NO problem, except a friend thinkin he knew everything and just lifting his hide a little....its kinda wedged in...and trying to pull the snake out. Well he got tagged twice then dropped him back in his cage. Even being that totally freaked out once we dangled that little fuzzy in front of him it took him about 20 seconds and it was all over...perfect headshot too.....actually looked like he wanted more. :) Looks like my boys gonna be a good eater.

Thx for your help....he woulda tried takin my arm if I waited another week or two.

3 weeks is definitely long!

I've had snakes that I bring home. and feed the next day with no issue. As long as you provide optimal conditions, they seem to transition quite smoothly. I have had some that are fussy and like to wait.

Well luckily there were a couple good guys on here who set me straight and I have a full and happy snake (watchin him cruise the cage now).

Congrats, glad he ate for you, next time leave the hide in if there is room, they will strike from their hide.

I thought about that but thought he might develop a habit of thinkin things that pass by are food, thus I get whacked when I'm just changin water or something. A legit worry?
