Kenyan Sandboas

I have another snake interest known to yall as the Kenyan Sandboa..I love my carpets and my cornsnakes. but I always had a thing for ambush predators just because they get the animals by surprise rather than the chase/hunt.

So I'm doing my research and was wondering about the impactment issue...Do the owners of these feed them in a seperate tub or in the actual enclosure and if you feed in the enclosure do you worry about impaction? have you ever had an impaction issue?

I have also read that pinkie mice need to be cut in half for them to eat as neonates is this true or is this just an option?

My neo's went for pinkies right off, never had to cut them.

haven't worried about impaction as I use aspen insted of sand.

I've only had problems with one of them and he decided he wouldnt eat frozen after a couple months, so he's eating only live right now

We got ours from Petsmart a while back and he is the cutest little thing. We keep him on aspen to avoid impaction and he takes whole F/T pinks w/o a problem. He sometimes forgets to eat them though and I have to get the pinky and introduce him to it again (we don't think he's that bright)

So the biggest size rodent this species of snake will ever need is an adult mouse? or is that just the adult females of this species?

Are there any cons to owning this snake?

My adult male eats hopper mice.

I'm not sure what you are looking for in terms of cons, but I since I haven't had mine long I'm still not sure of the best way to get him out of his tank. They are ambush predators and since they hide under the substrate it can be hard to tell where they are. That's about the only con I can think of.
