Getting up to temp with repti-bark
I recently switched over from cypress to Repti-bark in my normal's enclosure (he's my display snake) and I'm having trouble bringing the warm side temp up to 90 without the addition of an overhead lamp. I was just wondering if anyone else had this problem? I probably will be switching back after I use the rest of the bag.
Re: Getting up to temp with repti-bark
i use reptibark but cuz the chunks insulate the heat beneath it, i just put a very thin layer of it on the warm side with some openings between the pieces to let the heat through. my girl actually moves it away when she's underneath the warm side hide box cuz she likes sitting on the bare surface.
if you do switch back to the cypress make sure it's not a blend. that stuff has cedar in it. i used it too until i found out theres cedar in pretty much all the cypress mulch at home depot & lowes.

As others have mentioned, use a thin layer. I've used it too and anything over an inch typical prevents the heat from reach the top layer. Just play with the thickness till it works for you.

Mine moves it too. It's funny when you left the hide and it looks like crop circles

I usually buy the cypress from the pet store up at NERD. so I would hope that there's no cedar.

He does move it , but I didn't think that would be enough space for his warm spot(just in his hide) so I'll try thinning it out some more.
