What to breed to Woma female?
Ok so I just read through every page and post in 2 different threads regarding the 'hidden woma gene' and I think now I am so confused my head is spinning. :weirdface I guess no one REALLY knows all the true answers about the "hidden gene".....it's such a grey area and quite genetically complicated so until I get my head clear and re-read through everything I am just going to ask and see if you all can answer my main question for me:

I just bought a Woma female to add to my collection and I am very excited. I understand there are endless possilities as to combinations I could get with her....but I wanted to ask you guys your opinions on what I should breed her with? Just FYI, here is a list of the males that I currently have:

    Butter
    Super Pastel
    Lemon Blast
    Bumble Bee
    Piebald (on the way!)
Black Pastel (getting him next week)
    Cinny

I was leaning towards breeding her to the Butter....I have no idea if she carries this 'hidden woma gene' apparently there is no way to tell by looking. And apparently, if I am correct in understand everything that I read this morning, if she DOES carry the 'hidden woma gene' and I breed her to a Butter I could potentially get a Soul Sucker....but if she does NOT carry the hidden gene then I would be looking at just a womabutter (or I guess womalesser is what I have seen)....is this correct??

Unless you guys know of another way cool morph that I could get breeding her to one of my other males. I'm not sure what I would get if I bred her to the black pastel....black woma bees? I really don't want to go the regular pastel route (so you can X out the lemon blast, bee, and super pastel).....I'd like to try for something different (rather than just a womabee)....although if I bred her with the lemon blast could I get a WomaXPinXPastel? I don't even know what that would be.....lol:confused:

Suggestions would be appreciated! (OR....I guess technically I could breed her with the Piebald....and breed my Lesser female with the Piebald....then breed the hatchlings to one another and take a long shot at a PiebaldWomaButterLesser?? :D ;)

you could tell if she has the hidden gene buy just looking at them. hidden gene woma is a completly differeny snake from the woma. you probably dont have the hidden gene woma if you paid less then 2000. but any way i would breed her with the lemon blast or the bee

I would be willing to bet, if you bought her as a Woma....that's all you got. Hidden gene Womas are visually different than your everyday Woma and are priced accordingly. If the seller told you there's no way of knowing, they were probably just trying to get the sale out of you.

With that, I would say breed her to the Lemon Blast and/or Pied. I love the look of the Pastel Woma Pins, and I don't believe Woma Pied has even been produced yet.

Hidden gene Womas are a completely different Morph then Regular Womas...

It's a real shame NERD doesn't change the name of the Hidden Gene Woma Morph, it's so confusing for people! They don't even have a hidden gene in them!!!

Also when you look at NERDs site a lot of combos just say Woma that are really Hidden Gene Woma stuff...Now that's really confusing!!!!

You most likely have a "Regular" Woma unless you paid thousands of dollars for her.

Re: What to breed to Woma female?
Ohhhhhh ok because I just read through 2 complete threads and in one of them (I'd have to go back through to find it) there were more than a few people who said there is no markers or way to tell of a Woma has the hidden gene. But what you're saying is they are 2 different snakes....like a Butter and a Lesser? Look similar but are 2 totally different morphs? Yeah, they really need to change the name then because it sounds like some Womas may carry a gene that other's dont....rather than just coming out and saying they are 2 totally different morphs.

Now looking at the pics on the morph list:
    Woma
    http://www.worldofballpythons.com/morphs/woma/

    Hidden Gene
    http://www.worldofballpythons.com/mo...den-gene-woma/

They look nothing alike....Woma has the same head pattern as a spider, just without any white on the sides and the Hidden Gene has a solid head with the high white. GOT IT! :sweeet:

I was under the impression after reading all those posts that it the "hidden gene" was almost like a het....where the snake might carry the gene, but you don't know unless you prove it out. So yes I agree NERD should have just called it Hidden Gene Morph and leave the word Woma out of it. Because yea, that was super confusing!

So I still could go with a Butter or the Bee (or heck, both! ;) ) and still come out with some cool hatchlings! Thank you!! :D

Just for the record, the seller didn't try to tell me that, they sold me a Woma female....I was just thinking she could potentially carry this "hidden gene" but I am clear now that its a totally seperate morph. :)

I should stick the Bee and the Lemon Blast in with her this year....maybe hit some womabees and some womablasts.....

One thing with the Pied is it's hard because you can only put one male in with a female if you go the pied route....hmm....what to do.....choices choices....looks like I need to find another female woma....

As others have stated there is No hidden gene in hidden gene womas.

They should be called Woma Type II. I think that would help with the confusion:)

Woma and HG Womas are completely different - not even comparable to say Lesser/Butter because Lessers and Butters are compatible (on the same locus and arguably the same morph) while Womas/HG Womas are not compatible, they just happen to look the same.

The regular Woma is dominant - the homozygous form looks exactly like the heterozygous (single gene) form.

The HG Woma is co-dominant (really incomplete dominant), the homozygous form is the Pearl which is lethal and can't thrive.

This is what I've gathered in my research on the subject atleast. There is no "hidden gene", the HG Woma is a single gene that just happens to look like a Woma but is co-dom instead of dom. Hope this helps. :)

Re: What to breed to Woma female?
I would breed her to either a lemonblast or a firefly. The reason is the lemonblast woma looks awesome and so does the firefly woma. Jeremy Stone just posted a pic of a hatchling calico woma and it looks awesome. You can also breed here to a recesive gene. I will be breeding my female to an albino this year I think the albino woma would looking way better then the albino spider so I'm hoping she will go this coming season.
