Litter box in the same room as my BP?
    Hi all,

My husband and I have just gotten a new BP.
First, I want to say that the site has been very helpful.

One thing I haven't been able to find information on though...

Should I be worried about a cat litter box being in the same room? Potential airborne bacteria, etc that wouldn't hurt humans or cats, but could be a danger to the BP?

I'm honestly not sure, but I highly doubt it.

I have had a litter boxs in the same room as my snake for 6 months and have not had any trouble. That is just my experience so take it for what it is worth.

Is say fine if your keeping it clean, using quality liter and its not a small room like a walk in closet.

If you are really worried about RI from the litter you can get a covering for the box, just move it to a different room when you scoop it.

Just please make sure there is no way your snake can get out and the kitty can't get close enough to tamper with the lid. We dont want them to cross paths. Not everyone can have a snake room but just be extra observant since they share a space when you aren't home.:gj:

I know my Ember would find my future snakes fascinating *paw paw at glass* God help me when I pick up rat breeding "MOMMY! PLAYTOY!"

BTW there is harm to humans. Women who are pregnant cannot scoop litter, airborne bacteria in the feces can cause some minor birth defects. Not sure if its still true, but my dad had litter duty for 9 months. :P

I honestly don't think it'll be a problem as long as you keep the litter box from getting gross and you use quality litter (not the super dusty kind), as was already said.

As long as you know that the cat can't get at the snake, then the litter box in the room won't be a problem IMO.

I've got three of my snakes in the bedroom, and a litter box in the corner of the room. No problems in six years.
