What kind of UTH & thermostat should I get?
I have a 15 gallon glass tank atm and it's on top of my buffet table. What UTH should I get and does it actually go under the tank or at the bottom of it? And what size would I need?
I was looking at the Repti-therm and the Ultratherm. And is this a good thermostat or is another one you would suggest? http://www.reptilebasics.com/ve-100

Re: What kind of UTH & thermostat should I get?
i personally have a zoo med uth and it works great i have no problems with it at all. i have it hooked up to a hydro farm thermostat and like i said i havent had any problems and it works like a charm all day and night long i would highly recommend it.

I think the UTH you are looking at is good, but the thermostat is not. If you want it from reptile basics I'd go with one of the VE models, if you're looking for cheap I'd go with the hydrofarm on amazon.com like Hull suggested.

That is it. I use two of them. The only thing I don't like is once the probe dies the whole unit has to be replaced, and I don't know the life span of the probe. I check them meticulously but it's a good unit for a cheap on/off thermostat.

Since it will under my tank on my wood table, I should raise the tank a bit so that it's not setting directly on it (even though I have a cloth on the table), correct?
I think I will go ahead and order that thermostat for the time being and the Ultratherm uth. :) So I shouldn't use the lamp at all, or only when the ambient temp is too low?

I'd only use it if the ambient temps are too low. I've had to use a heat lamp in my tank only a couple times in the winter and that was all, and only for short periods of time. You can get something like this

They are at any home improvement store to raise the tank off the table if you want. The UTH should be directly on the bottom of the tank though so you may need to tape it (I use aluminum tape...also at home improvement stores). It is not a fire hazard either way, as wood doesn't ignite until over 400 degrees.

And I want it only on one side, correct? Not the entire thing? I'm trying to decide what size to get. I think the 11 x 11 would be a good size for my tank if it should only cover one end.

Yeah it shouldn't cover more than 1/2 to 1/3 of the bottom. :)
