    Hi,

There are a few ways of doing it.

You can see pictures of the rod method in this first post in this thread.

And you can see another method in this thread ( I even put up a pic :P ).

Drill a hole through the rod and mount something on the rack to run a lock through

    Hi,

Or use a rotating hasp and padlock.

But the above idea locks all the shelves with one or two padlocks so I would go with that.

Just remember any adult will be able to find a way around these things if they have time and tools.

The best security is not to have anyone you don't trust within a country mile of them.

If this is just a lock it to keep friends and family out. then the Rod with a small pad lock through it will stop that.

For theft, keep int mind if rack is wood nothing will stop a person from ripping the rods right off or anything for that matter screwed to the wood.

I had the same idea with the padlock. And I'm not trying to be nosy, but a little more information about your situation and what you're specifically worried about might help us come up with some better ideas for you.....

well a few days ago some one broke into my garage and took nothing. in there i have an old rack and on top i had an 16 quart tub this tub was moved next to the door that leads to the garage to kitchen. i was thinking that they were going to use it to put my snakes in.about 6 months ago some one here stole my cousins ball morphs who lives like 10 min from me. when this happened he moved his remaning normals to a safe place then two weeks later he saw that some one broke in again i guess to finish what they started. and in this same day i saw that some one left the door open that leads from the front to my back yard and saw marks on my garage door but they did not get in. from that day i lock every door every window and then this happened. now i know they if they come in they wont be thinking i have locks on my racks and hopefully leave. and this will gave me time to move them. they are really dumb and leave a big mess its really easy to see if they came. like i guess they did not expect for the garage door that leads to the kitchen to be closed so they left. and im also planning in getting a security system just in case but this wont be for a while.

Sounds like you need a different place to live and/or a large dog, preferably something angry looking, like a rottweiler. Have you contacted the police about this? I'd imagine that even if they just sent a car through your neighborhood a little more frequently than usual, it might help.

I used zip ties to connect dog chain to each area so I could lock it with a pad lock to keep my kids from pulling the drawers open and letting the snakes out. I have the animal plastic economy rack and I didn't have to actually damage the rack at all to do it. However I did also drill holes in my DIY rack to do the same thing to.

Here are pictures of it. I like that I can unlock one tub at a time without space for a rod.
