nic cross?

hey guys apperntly i have a nics cross. she is about 6 feet long and in a 55 gallon long. do i need a much much bigger tank or what?. also i am keeping humidity at around 50 to 60%. thats about as high as i can get without misting 20 times a day. temps are 86 hot and 80 cool. any sugestions. i cant find a four foot long tub or else ide get that in a min. this boa has an attitude...i bought her knowing she was aggressive but didnt realize her bits make bps and king bits feel like a beesting lol. i herd hide being taken out help. shes about a year and a half old. is it to late to tame her down. i cant even get her out of the tank to get her in the bath and she litterly is latched to my arm till i put her in the water and she unlastches a fewmins later. her sheds are fine till the tail then it get rough and need help but i cant get in the cage without getting tagged. any suggestions.

-If you want a large tub for her, go to ReptileTubs.com and get a VE-175.
-I would bump the hot side up to about 90-91.
-Since she is only 1.5 years old, you should be able to tame her down with correct husbandry and regular handling.
-If she uses the hides, I would say just leave them in. She may not feel secure enough yet to be without them.
-Get a snake hook and start hook training her. A good hooking technique will spare you from a large number of those bites.

Those flimsy little things they sell are a joke to even call a "snake hook". Plus I wouldn't trust anything that's "collapsible" to be any good on a large boa anyway.
Reptile Basics has some different lengths for sale. I couldn't tell you which one would be best, I guess it would depend on the size/weight of your boa.

Here's my little tutorial on the hooking technique that works for me. Hope it helps...

When using a hook, I find it easier to use smooth, gentle movements. Don't just hook and drag the snake or they will spook and try harder to get away. I use the hook to basically control their head, not to lift the bulk of their body.

-The first thing to do is look at their head. Whichever way their head is facing, that's the hand you want to hold the hook in. This will keep you from having to reach cross-body and getting your arms crossed when lifting them out.

- Next, I take the hook and kind of rotate it to the side so it is essentially laying flat and will slide under the snake easier. Once I get it under them, I just turn it back up so the snake is laying through the hook.

- Before I lift with the hook, I try to position it about 1/4 to 1/3 of the way down their body from the head. That way, if they try to pull their head back and "S" there is less chance of them pulling all the way out of the hook.

- After getting the hook positioned, just lift them up a few inches and reach in with your free hand and lift them out. If they get hissy or flighty, just move the hook around as needed to keep their head away from you. Once you have the bulk of their weight supported by your other hand and arm, then you can put the hook down and handle normally. It won't take long to get the hang of it, and if you have any doubts, you can always practice on a water hose or extension cord...
