Wanting to start breeding

Hey guys. I'm wanting to start breeding ball pythons sometime in the near future. Just wondering if you guys had any tips or pointers or story's about when you started breeding ball pythons.

Get females, as many as you can as soon as you can. They take up to 3 years before they are ready to breed, you can put off buying males for now

Yeah I figured lol. To bad the first and only one I've bought so far is a male.

I think Male is as important as female.

I have so many females and they all 700 to 2000 gram now.

I only have 1 male pastel pied is ready.

Think about what morphs you are interested in breeding and what you want in the future.
I second the statement about getting females. If you have the money you can buy females as adults but it will cost you. Just be careful about buying from small breeders, some people will lie about snakes being het for something and also they may sell adults that just wont breed. If you trust them then most likely they are straight forward honest people but just keep an eye out. If it seems like too good of a deal it probably is. Your better off getting your first snakes or hets from reputatuable breeders such as pro exotics, N.E.R.D, BHB Enterprises, etc. are all great guys to work with and are some of the most popular BP sellers on the market. Depending on how many snakes your wanting to breed I would suggest a whole snake room with a rack system and such. Depends on what your thinking about spending. Its NOT cheap.

I agree emales are very important when it comes to breeding by far one of the best deals i have seen on line is from Royal Constrictors Designs they have a 5 snake package deal for like $1500 u can get 4 females and a male best way to start out my opinion i wish i had that opportunity when i started a year ago but now i have almost all 5 of those snakes lol

Find a morph combo that you want to have or can't seem to live with out. Find out how to make that morph combo. Buy a female with one of more of the needed genes to make that morph combo. then after a year or 2 buy a male with the missing gene(s) needed.

Sounds simple... isn't.. lol.. I have wanted a Queen bee for years, I'm on the right track but am defenetly taking the long way around. But my path seems to be more secure and I feel I'd rather take the extra time!

Then again, I got lucky.. my very first oldest BP's were females and I bought them WAY before I even thought about breeding. 1st morph I boght was a male.

yeah same, I was sold a male normal ended up being a female and produced my first clutch, due to hatch this friday

i really like the cinnamon morphs, pewters and so on. well on my way male pastel? check. Just bought a female cinnamon. next purchase a rack. but have a few months till i need to get that.

Ive been keeping and raising snakes for 25 years but just started breeding ball pythons 3 years ago..The best advice I can give is take it slow..If u buy a whole slew of ball pythons,you have to consider the housing,heating and feeding requirements for multiple animals..As they grow you will have to upgrade cages/racks which is costly.food can b costly for bigger collections.Then an incubator..also when u hatch babies you have to consider their obvious requirements for their health and care...I have seen people get into this and burnout quick because they overwhelmed themselves with too many animals that they couldnt properly care for or because their motivation for breeding ball pythons was strictly for financial.gain..People that try to do this cause they wanna get rich r doomed for failure from the start.I would always advise starting with healthy babies and raising them yourself..starting with 1 male to 3 or 4 females is a good start...there r great breeders out there selling packages like that which u have already stated...Get what you like...After you have success and some experience,you can always build your collection through holding back animals and money u make from sales you can throw right back into your breeding projects...Good luck to u!!...Breeding ball pythons is very rewarding and fun but it is by no means easy..Be prepared for disappointment and be open to learning and educating yourself...If u have a passion and a love for ur animals,you will be succesfull
