    no supplemental heat or light?
So I still live at home with my mother while I'm going through college and she said that I could have whatever reptiles I want as long as I do not run up the electricity bill due to the fact my ball pythons have raised it a bit and she doesn't want it to go any higher.

The room that they will be kept in stays about about 75 degrees during the day and drops to about 73 at night. So something that will be suitable in those temperatures.

    Thanks in advance!

Cresties I've heard do well without any supplemental heat or light. But I must say, the only heat source I use for my ball pythons is a UTH connected to a thermostat...and when I only I had I didn't notice any difference in my electric bill....just so you know :)

i dont know where to begin with this one.

first, if you are relying on your mom to pay your electric bill, then maybe more reptiles isnt a good idea until you get out of school and get your own place.

second, unless you have a huge room with tons of animals and are running a bunch of heaters and fans your bill shouldnt go up much. even if you get more and give your mom 20 bucks a month you should be good

finally, im not too big on multiple kinds of herps but i do know some small lizards, colubrids can be kept at the temps you have said above. but in the summer you may have to cool the room so they dont get too hot.

someone will post soon im sure with more info on different species for you to consider.

There isn't a major difference by any means just enough for her to tell me to watch what else I get. And seeing as how I'm not paying rent right now I don't want to push it

If you use a 10-20 gal uth its only like 8 watts I don't work for con edison but it doesn't affect the bill at all by much really it barely puts a dent, the only thing that really put it up is the a.c

I normally do pay rent to help out but I work for a school and we are out for the summer so i'm not getting paid and my summer job does not pay much, i do not want to push it anymore.

The bill really hasn't gone up, i went and looked at it just now I think that she doesn't want it to go up. We had a ton of reptiles when i was little and our bill was crazy.

i want more snakes too but i just bought a house, it just wouldnt be smart. i would say just have patience and wait. you can get everything you want and not have to worry about it once you are out on ur own. if you did get more and she made you pay rent or the electric bill in full im sure you wouldnt be happy. dont push it, patience is a key.

also, what if your animals get sick? are you prepared for the vet bills? caging is another to think about.

I'm not trying to be rude here at all so please do not take it that way. I am twenty I have been on my own since i was 15 and just came back home. I make plenty to take care of my animals, my mother is helping me out this summer and not making me pay rent. I am very patient I have been waiting since I was 15 to get reptiles of my own. I have money saved away to take care of my animals if they get sick. I just wanted to see what other options were there to not run up a bill. I'm sorry if my previous posts made me seem like I had can't take care of them but I am very capable. Like I said I'm not trying to be rude but I just don't like being made to feel like a child.

I see what your saying, but even if you don't pay rent why wouldn't you just pay the difference in the electric bill? I have 5 snakes that I really wanted all with different heat sources and thermostats and my ACs on timers and all these gadgets for their well being....and I only notice about $10 a month different in my electric bill. I say if you can't get what you really want then why not wait for a better time.
