    researching amazons
the red crowned & the lilac crowned specifically.
(the lilac is very similar to the red but has darker red & lighter blue on its head.)
anyways, anyone know anything about them?
    how popular are they?
    what personalities do they have?

i know a couple people who have yellow headed or yellow naped and although they're gorgeous birds i've been told & have read that they really have rotten personalities. do ya'll know if thats true of all the yellow headed/yellow naped or could it just be those individual parrots being temperamental.
i know any animal has the potential to be unfriendly depending on how it's being cared for/handled etc. but i also know that some animals are just nastier then other no matter how good of a life they've got.

I had a Blue-front that was a little moody. Thank goodness I was her person because she hated my boyfriend. She always tried to bite him. She did a couple of times :)

I've had yellow headed, blue front, and red crowns and they were not my favorite. They didn't have the best personalities and like DellaF said its nice when they like you but they can get really attached to one person and its bloody murder when someone else is in the room. I had one (the blue front) didn't like any men. At all. He never had a bad experience with them he just hated them. I don't know if its because he was hand feed by only women or what but I have herd others having the same kind of problems. Major jealousy issues.

I grew up in a bird avery and Amazons where one of the ones my mom decided that we weren't going to work with any more.

For an awesome pet with amazing colors at about the same size I really suggest a Red Sided Eclectus. Great birds at a moderate price. The only problem is its hard to find a true one. A lot of people have been cross breeding them. Not to makes things interesting but because they don't know the difference or don't care.

Sorry. I rambled. I can talk your ears off about birds:D

The males have candy corn color on their upper beak too. :) Their feathers are very fine and different close up (hair like). I can't really compare them to anything. I love those guys!
