Is it normal that he never really constricts? They are F/T so it doesnt matter overall, but im just curious if youve seen this before.

Just to respond here as well in case others in future look at it for answers to their own problems, I think its pretty much fine if hes eating. If I leave my mice on the floor my snake would almost never strike and constrict it just sniff, check its surroundings, then swallow. But usually I give it a little zombie dance cos I like to keep him striking.

I read somewhere that striking and constricting takes up a rather significant amount of energy given a snake's super slow metabolism, think of it as pushing nearly every muscle in your body to its maximum for 2 minutes straight. It probably burns more calories constricting one prey than it does all week. So if he doesn't strike its saving energy putting it into growth so I'd say its fine. Which does lead me to wonder that maybe that is why we always see that feeding multiple smaller meals (like sticking to mice all its life and feeding 3-4 when its adult) never exactly produces the same results in terms of growth rates, maybe because it has to waste so much more energy constricting so many more times. Anyone has views on that or can shed some light on it?
