    size of prey
How do you determine what size prey to offer based on weigh?

If the snake is under 900-1000 grams, you can feed prey that weighs 10%-15% of the snakes body weight.

Based off of weight usually the rule is 10%-15% of the snake's body weight every 5 to 10 days, depending on the age of the snake (i.e. closer to 15% every 5-7 days for a younger snake and closer to the 10% mark every 7-10 days for an older snake). That's how I base my feeding schedules for my snakes.

Depends on where you get them from. If you're buying them at a pet shop or something then they'll sell them individually, so you can get however many you want at a time, and sometimes they have the weights, otherwise they just give you the size name (i.e. "fuzzy", "hopper", etc). Either you can ask the people at the shop to weigh them out for you or you can get some that look about the same size around as your snake and weigh them when you get home to get an idea of a starting point. If they don't weigh as much as you would like them to, then just get bigger ones next time. That kind of thing.

Usually, at local pet shops, you can buy individual frozen feeders. At the big chain pet stores, they sell commercially packaged feeders. The weight printed on the box is just an average weight. So, if you buy a box of two small rats, the Net Wt on the box is 100 grams, so each of the rats will be somewhere around 50 grams each +/- a few grams.
My local pet store gets their frozen feeders from a rat breeder, so they basically have a bunch of comparably sized rats in Zip-lock bags. When I buy those, I take a scale with me to the pet store to weigh the feeders, so I can make sure that I'm getting the appropriate sizes.
