Painting - do I need to move my snake?

Hello,

I'm going to be painting the room where I currently have my BP I'm just wondering if I need to relocate it for the 2 days I'm going to be painting or if it should be ok.

I don't think the smells will be that strong and I should be finished with the paint my saturday night (6/18) fully dried by sunday morning but just wasn't sure if it was necessary to move my snake or not.

I'll probably get flamed for saying this but no, the smell doesn't harm humans it won't harm snakes. If it's only one snake then I suppose you could but I just painted my reptile room as well and with 40+ there's no way I was moving all of them and they did just fine.

I moved all 7 of mine to paint the room.

Same when I repainted the kids' room. The kids slept in my room for 2 nights.

Probably won't kill the snakes nor the kids, but I always say, better safe than sorry. It's like second-hand smoke. Probably won't kill me, but I'd rather not inhale the darned things.

So, if you got one snake, I'd say move it out. If you got 100 snakes - then, your call.

I would, not because it could harm them but because they have very a sensitive sense of smell, and ball pythons are hard enough to get to eat, the irritation from the smell could trigger it to go off feed IMO.

I agree, I'd move them to be better safe than sorry. The smell might not kill them, but like LGray23 said, it might temporarily irritate them if they are looking to feed and are thrown off by the sudden strange smell they're not used to.

If you find it uncomfortable in any way to be in that room after or during painting, I would. It irritates them as well, or maybe more since they have a more acute sense of smell. Although it may not be deadly, it definitely is stressful, imagine yourself being in there..

Imo, it's not worth the risk. It may not harm your bp, but it might. Though mild paint fumes don't necessarily harm humans, strong enough paint fumes can, and as snakes have only one lung, they are a lot more sensitive to fumes than humans are. Even if you don't want to move the snake to another house, it would probably be fine kept a few rooms away from whatever room you're painting.

Whichever way you decide to go, make sure that you have adequate ventilation...
