    Apartment close to train tracks...
So I have been looking for an apartment for September, haven't had a whole lot of luck yet... one place was nice and quite affordable but a train runs through the backyard.

I'm wondering if the vibration/noise of a train going by a couple times per day is going to stress my snakes out. I'm planning on this being my first bp breeding season and I don't want to risk missing out on it to save a bit on rent.

I keep crested geckos as well and I am somewhat concerned for tail drops and whatnot but I'd be willing to risk it... I've only had about 5 tail drops in the past 3 years of producing 50+ geckos per season, I think they can handle it...

I really want to be in the apartment while a train passes before I decide to take it or not, to see just how much shaking and noise is going on... landlord says he's not gonna lie its fairly loud but not too bad... but I'm thinking it must be the reason its priced as low as it is...

Anyways, does this sound like bad news for my balls?

Hmm... Well, I would ask to check out how bad the train noise is before as well, but I don't think it'll be too big of a problem. They aren't as sensitive as we seem to think they are, but I would definitely try to keep it away from the wall closest to the tracks (maybe on the other side of the apartment) just to reduce the noise/vibrations, and maybe put the enclosures on some rubber or styrofoam to reduce any vibrations that might translate through the floor and to the enclosure. Just my :2cent:, I'm sure others will have different opinions.

My house is about 175m from train tracks. I usually get 1-2 trains a day going by at pretty high speeds. The shaking usually lasts about 10-20 seconds. I've never noticed my snakes doing anything out of the ordinary while they are going by.

It shouldn't effect them really. As stated above, you should probably put some rubber stoppers down if you have a hard wood floor to reduce just a bit of the vibration.

I have tracks bout a 1/8 mile from my house no problem it doesn't effect them at all and it shakes the house a bit.

These tracks are like 15 metres (or yards if you prefer) at most from the house and there is a road crossing nearby so it will be blowing the horn...

We were told that they were offering it to someone else because but they have since called and said "still want it?"

I dunno I feel like its going to be shaking pretty bad and loud 3 times per day, but my biggest concern is the snakes... I'm on the fence right now based on these other experiences...

Does anyone think its a BAD idea to get this place?

I think its a bad idea for more reasons then the snakes. 15 yards (or meters), sheesh, that is CLOSE !!!!

I know one can get used to anything, but I wouldn't want to get used to that.

I'm a deep sleeper, I have slept through a fire alarm. The train wouldn't bother me all that much, especially when saving $200 a month vs. similar apartments.

Snakes and geckos are where my concern is... too much invested there to run into a problem that can't be fixed for months.

Its not so much "sleeping" through it, I just wouldn't want train tracks 15 yards from my place. There is close and then there's CLOSE. LOL
