Uneven UTH heating

So I know the heating isn't really consistent on the entire pad, but as I recall, its cooler on the outside of the pad, and the center is where its most hottest.

So I set my thermometer by what the temperature of the center of the mat is. But there are certain parts on the outside that get up to 100 degrees, whereas the center of my UTH gets up no higher than 95. Am I doing something wrong? Can I fix it? Because I don't want my bp to get burned.

No it is just the way they are. I have found pads from two suppliers and 4 sizes of flexwatt to be the same. You just need to deal with it.

There are a lot of solutions, but basically they all come down to the same thing you need a buffer to absorb some of the heat and radiate it out. If you place the pad onto glass the glass works doing this job the hot and cool areas blend together. If you are using a plastic tub DO NOT STICK it to the tub you need to provide either an air space or a intermediate material to even out the temps it will also take the edge off spikes if you have an on/off t-stat. This is the down side of tubs no one speaks of.

I personally when I was using a single tub stuck the pad to a piece of glass cut to the size of the pad and just put the bumper feet on exactly like it was installed on a tank and just placed the tub on the glass it is easy to clean and has enough mass to provide even temps (mostly even temps). The only problem is dropping it and breaking both glass and pad. !/4 inch PVC might work well too and avoid that problem.
