Re-homing a Columbian

I am potentially going to re-home a Columbian. I'm not sure of the age, but he is approx. 5 feet in length. I know nothing more, as I have yet to talk to the "owner". Any concerns to aware of with the Columbian? I have a BP, that was a very sick young adult upon making our commitment to ownership. However, one and half years later, she is healthy and happy.

Any words of wisdom of needed observations would be greatly appreciated.

Research it's needs. If it's sick, I wouldn't bring it home. You'll probably be able to tell if it is not healthy.

Any concerns other than general sicknesses, IBD, paramyxo? I'd do a nice long quarantine, but I'd never ever buy a boa off craigslist especially with other reptiles...unfortunately you never know what your getting....and to me it's not worth risking my others. I'd support the breeders who live for this hobby instead of saving a buck on a craigslist....

While you may be able to get a great snake off of craigslist I would really have to agree with LGray on this. Is it really worth bringing a snake home that could pass along an illness to your other snakes?

I agree with the other post, and this may be petty, but if someone is rehoming a "Columbian" red tail boa on CL, I would be more inclined to believe they may not be as experienced and informed as I'd like them to be. The boa may not have gotten the proper care or quarantine when they got it..

However... If someone is rehoming a "Colombian" red tail boa on CL, I'm more inclined to believe they may have more knowledge about their care and therefore the snake may have been properly cared for and is not sick..

Please get as much info and history on it as you can before deciding to bring it home.

Funny, I thought I'd committed a fatal error with the keyboard - then I realized the correspondence from the current owner is spelled just as I entered it. Unfortunately, I don't know the owner, he was recommended to me from others. He has put some time, effort and money into his current boa - I am concerned and thought about the quarantine issues. I'm lucky that I can separate any snakes by several floors in my home, just not sure how long the quarantine should last.

I hate the thought of an animal going to someone with no experience and bouncing around from owner to owner or worse. We'll see what happens once I can lay eyes on the snake.

Lol that's why I worded my reply like that. I figured it was the current owners spelling mistake. It's a good point though. Someone who does independent research instead of just taking what others say with a grain of salt, are more likely to notice the spelling.

If it's a person with experience and people have vouched for him/her then like I said, try to get the history of the animal before making a decision.
