In Cage Water Feature?

I have no personal experience with waterfalls or any similar water features being kept inside an animal's enclosure. I do know I've seen a few keepers use them without problems but you have to think about any possible harm or difficulty that would come with that feature. I guarantee it won't be too easy to clean a waterfall every few weeks when you are supposed to clean the entire enclosure. I know with hatchling BPs there was a worry that they could somehow get inside of the water feature to use it as a hide and could harm themselves, but from the size of the snake in your avatar I assume you won't have that problem. In my opinion, there are much easier methods of raising the relative humidity inside an enclosure without adding another item that requires upkeep and cleaning. Obviously, you are going to be the one cleaning it so you have to decide whether the expense is worth the upkeep!

A waterfall? I've heard its more of a hassle than it is a help. I've heard of snakes crawling into the small waterfall and getting stuck. Eventually they become breeding grounds for bacteria, if you don't clean it regularly.

Bottom line, there are better and easier ways to raise humidity.

Ball pythons came from areas which are fairly arid. The burrows and mounds they use as dens are considerably more humid.

I bring this up because it is not critical that you maintain high humidity in the entire enclosure. What is important is that you provide an area, like a hide, where he can go for increased humidity.

It's alot easier to provide a humid hide than to constantly have to be spraying, misting or employing complicated methods in order to bump the humidity of the entire enclosure.

Ok, thanks guys!!! :) And Slytherin is pretty big and is only gonna get bigger. He's the only snake I have and I don't really plan on getting more anytime soon, so little baby snakes wouldn't be a problem. His hidey hole is pretty humid already so... Yeah.

People get crazy with humidity, to the point of messing with humidity before getting constant heating ( there is another thread where a poster removed the heat lamp to fix humidity before providing a new heat source because so many said the lamp was bad.)


A humid hide is easy and simple. The only word of caution with all hides is avoid holes cut arches from an edge there is no way a snake can get stuck but with a circle hole (like in the center of a plastic container) a snake that fits after a big meal my not and although it isn't a good chance, there is a remote chance and a stuck snake can hurt itself.

Can anyone post the pictures of their water feature with snakes , i wanna see it , that how its look like.
