help ID this Blood Python

we recently purchased a blood python at the San Antonio Tx reptile expo and I know what temps and humidity levels he/she needs but i dont know what kind of blood python Eztli is or where bloods naturally thrive at so any info on that would be awesome and when they shed or anything blood python related that would be nice too :D

It looks like to me it's a normal red blood python. They didn't tell you it's sex? They come from malaysia and indonesia. Check out vpi.com they have tons of information about care, species, etc...

Looks like a Borneo short-tail python to me. You can find most of the information you'd want by looking through the threads in this section and VPI is even better. Basic care for all three species is mostly the same.

That snake really reminds me of a cross between a borneo python and a blood python, but moreso borneo. I just don't see the suboculars though. I'm gonan go out on a limb and say borneo, but I kinda question it. I agree with the others though, VPI is the best place to check for info on care. Best of luck, great looking snake! ~Caylan.S.~

That's what bothered me as well, it also has some noticeable light flecking on the belly though sometimes that's seen in Borneos. Just not typically. I didn't want to jump to hybrid based on some blurry photos, but I'm seeing a little blood influence it too. Clearer shots of the head, top and profile, would help if you can get them.

I actually did a little bit of research on the python curtus species. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding the difference in the brongersmai(red blood) and breitensteini(borneo)is the number ventricular scaling. I don't remember the numbers but I do remember red blood pythons having 167 or more. But if this is an offspring then I have no answer other than go back to the parents. :D

Do a little research and If you aren't sure I'm sure you could take some up close pics and send them to Tracy at vpi. She might help you determine it's subspecies.

It's hard to tell from the pics, but I agree that it looks like it might be a cross. I don't see the subocular scales either, but I can see Borneo in it for sure. The patterning on and behind the head looks like a borneo, but the body reminds me a bit of a red blood. A clear straight on head shot from the top and one from the side would help for sure.
