Eye issues?

My male BP Vincent has had something off about his right eye since I before brought him home. I don't think it's anything serious, maybe something from a previous shed, but I'm not entirely sure. Any opinions?

This is his right eye, looks perfectly fine.

This is his left eye, it looks a bit off. From what I can tell maybe part of the inner socket is popping out a little bit? Maybe it has something to do with a previous shed? I've no idea.

I have a vet lined up a little under thirty miles away that works on ball pythons and other reptiles and they have a very good reputation. Does anyone think that I should bring him in for a visit?

It might be a retained eyecap but looking at it I think it is more likely to simply be the membrane between the spectacle and surrounding scales showing as a result of beingpulled out during the shedding process.

A clearer, closer, in focus picture of the eye should help.

I would just make certain the humidity is right for the next shed and see what it looks like afterwards.

I don't want to get too close to his eye and try to see if it's hard or soft, so I'm not entirely sure what it is, it looks soft though.

The eyes seem pretty clear to me, if its from the shed I wouldn't say its an eyecap. But then again I myself am not too sure if a retained eyecap can still look clear like that.

Hmmm,

I can't see any of the ragged edges I would expect from a retained eyecap and his eye looks clear and bright in the photo rather than either silvery or slightly opaque.

I'd wait and see what it looks like after the next shed.

It's hard to tell from your pictures.

At first glance I thought it might be built up material from a retained spectacle or two, but the eye looks clear.

That gray area you are seeing around the periphery of the eye really looks like the rolled up edge you sometimes see with retained spectacles.

I'd go see a qualified reptile vet and have them take a quick look.

I have seen something like it when i had ratsnakes, when they had mite infections. Have you checked that?

That what's I first thought that it was but his eye wasn't cloudy at all like when they have retained eyecaps.

It's not actually gray, it's more of an off white actually. When I would check his cage temp and would look at him quick I thought it gave him a slightly human quality look.

Yeah, I checked for mites when I brought him home. He's CB if that information helps at all.

That's from irritation to the membrane around the eye.

Whether the eye is irritated or the spectacle is retained, either way, the best course of action is to take him to a vet.

I've had retained eye caps without cloudy or dark or otherwise odd looking eyes. If you aren't sure whats going on, Skiploder is right, take him to an experienced herp vet and have the vet check out the eye. Don't mess with the spectacle or the skin surrounding if you don't know whats going on.
