Because that's where we chose to draw the lines. Lines have to be drawn SOMEwhere. Not everyone will agree on exactly where the boundaries are....but not everyone has to enforce them either. This is what we've chosen and it's what works for us. :)

Im gonna have to agree to disagree it is a courtesy to be respectful of a groups wishes, but at the same time, this is the Internet! It's a rough world out there and a word isnt as bad as some of the things younguns can find on the world wide web. Just sayin

Personally, I think the mods here do a great job keeping this place family friendly. Sure you can find things to nit-pick over, that's true anywhere. But by and large I like this place a LOT better than I do most forums.

At the same time, we don't have to be a part of it. If me and you got into it and I started calling you every name in the book and vice versa then all hell would break loose, and we would both be banned from this awesome site. Why promote anything when we're all comfortable with how things are ran right now? No swearing makes people aware that we are mature and wise, and don't need to be rude to get a point across.

It doesn't bother us one bit that some folks disagree with where we've drawn our lines and how we enforce them. Just so long as they respect them while they're here. :) Sure, this is "The Internet"....but THIS is OUR little corner of the Internet, and we don't have to do it the way "everyone else" does. ;)

The rules are fine, they are what they are, and they work for this site.

Most importantly, they are what the people who run this site want the rules to be. This forum doesn't belong to us (the users), we belong to this forum.

Sure there are some tighter restrictions than what you'll find on your average forum, particularly with regards to language, but if you're anything like me you'll get the knack of leaving out infraction-able content from your posts :P

Seriously, it really did take me a LONG time to stop accidentally writing stuff that broke the rules, and I'm just glad that there's an "edit" button.
