Is there an attitude difference between male and female BP?
Asking because when I eventually get my snake(next year in January at a reptile expo I hope) I want a male. I have a name for him and everything. XD
But I often see people who say the want females instead of males. Is that so they can breed more, they sell better, act better, ect., or what? I know females are larger than males, and that's it. XD:snake::snake:

I don't have a huge collection but I can say from my experience that males are a little more lay back.

Females have 1" long teeth and will take off a hand if provoked when removing them from a clutch of eggs......

People want females because females make the eggs! You can breed 1 male to multiple females and have multiple clutches, so females are more "valuable". I don't see any difference in the temperament between males and females, it all has to do with the individual personality of the snake, not the sex.

Females get bigger, have eggs and tend to eat better through the breeding season.
Males are smaller, but do tend to fast a bit more than females do.
I've got sweethearts of both sexes, so if you just want a companion it doesn't matter. Oh, and male babies tend to be cheaper than females, so that might be a factor if you were looking for a specific morph.

I believe temperament depends on the individual snake. One of my males is incredibly shy and does not seem too fond of being handled, tries to slither away as soon as he sees the opportunity. While my other male is more relaxed, but is also the only one who has hissed, struck at, and bit me on multiple occasions. My female is calm, gentle, and is the only one I allow kids to touch.
As for why females are in high demand.. that is mainly due to the high interest in breeding throughout the community. Most breeders tend to sell of a lot of males but hold on to the females each year because one male can be bred to multiple females. Therefore, there are much fewer females on the market, resulting in them being more expensive. If you just want a pet, go for a male. :) You can find many breeders who sell normal males for $25-40.

I can not tell a difference in attitude between male or female bp's. I have a few males that are just awesome and one that I think is just evil... I have females that are the exact same way.....

Re: Is there an attitude difference between male and female BP?
Thanks for all the great replies! I think I will go for a male, as that was what I originally wanted for the name I had picked out. But I can't decided if I want a normal or a different morph. XD I love the pure white ones. But I guess it'd all depend on what the reptile expo has in January...
The hardest part will be convincing my dad to let me actually /get/ a new pet.
But Christmas, the Expo, and my birthday are close together. X-mas near the end of December, the Expo in January(last year the 22nd) and my Brithday is the 31st. XD Good time to get a snake over those holidays. >.>

If you can convince your parent to pay well over $1,000 for a Leucistic (all white snake) then go for it, lol. Good luck!
