Does this seem a good weight for a male BP?

My male ball, Loki, is about 2yrs old, and near, if not 36inches, and weighs (didn't use gram scale) 2lbs, or around 900g. Is this a good weight? He seems tiny to me for his size. I have no idea his weight with food in him.


I've had him all of four days today (surprisingly I got a very tolerant boy, easy to handle, not very head shy, and I was only hissed at once, the first day when i accidently hit the hide he was in while fixing his plant. :D ) and the last time he was fed was 6/1, on two adult mice. (Probably small ones, store I got him from offered him a rat and he didnt even look at it, offered mice, he was all over them, so I'm assuming he's been on mice his whole life)


I'm going today to get the next two mice, and going to feed him tomorrow (if his eyes haven't gone blue, if they have, I'll keep the mice until next feeding) eventually, I'll try switching to rats, then trying to switch to F/T.

900 grams seems like an okay weight for his age. As long as he's not skinny you shouldn't be worried. All of my 2010 males are between 350-475 grams.

Alright :D IMO he seems like he's just beginning to be thin, but if he went off feed for the winter (wouldn't surprise me if he did, especially since he was a breeder before he went to Petland) then I'm guessing that'd be why he seems small. I'll definatly watch his weight though, and try to get a decent sized mouse for him today.

Switch him over to small rats, that'll bulk him up for sure.

It's def what I plan to do, but seeing that he's on mice atm, I'm gonna *try* feeding him mice this next feeding, then get a rat pup and small mouse next, and scent the rat, repeating that a few feedings, then trying only a couple rat pups scented using bedding from the petstore from their mice that are to be sold as pets. Hopefully I have him on rats only by the end of the summer, but thats just wishful thinking :P

It's a fine weight. But some of them are slow growers, and some of them are fast growers: as long as he doesn't look either skinny or hideously obese, he's fine.

One or two adult mice every week or two are fine. For a female you'd probably want to try switching to rats, but my black pastel boy has gotten very large on the jumbo-mouse-a-week diet.

:rolleyes: If he is a slow grower, seems that's all I get with reptiles... Got a Beardie thats possibly the same way...

And I'm iffy if I'm going to breed him or not later on, it'll be a few years before that, and only if I can get my hands on a het pied, or pied girl :D

I'd really rather do the once a week feeding with ONE item, but I'm not sure if my petstore has jumbo mice. They do have feeder rats though! I'm hopin that since he's such a good snake over all, he'll be ok with switching, do it no problem... Again wishful thinkin'
