Male or female?Does it matter?
I know this might sound incredibly stupid but besides the genetics is there any other reason as to having either a male or female morph when breeding? For example I'm wondering should I start with a female pastel and male spider or vice versa, or does it really just come down to the aesthetics of each animal?
Re: Male or female?Does it matter?
Genetically it makes no difference which way your start. Planning-wise for future breeding, it does make a difference.
If Spider male/Pastel Female or Pastel Male/Spider female are the only 2 options, I'd go with Spider male/Pastel female.
Reasoning:
Spider male X Pastel females = Bumblebee. Bumblebee male (son)X Pastel female (mom) = Killer Bee
Going the other route, you are stuck on Bumblebee and can't advance past that with those 2 starters (you have to wait until female offspring grow up).
Throwing other genes in there obviously changes things, but if those were my only two options....
Re: Male or female?Does it matter?
i have a few tricks when trying to decide what to buy. first i look at price, buy the cheaper gene you want as a female. reason being you can raise the female for 3 years before she can breed. so in 2 years the male with the better genes will be cheaper and needs less time to be breed able.
also its better to buy the female first in order to raise her, regardless of genes.
otherwise it doesnt matter male or female. its up to you and what you want. if your looking for just a pet then consider size. males stay smaller than females.

Why would you tell someone that they can never breed a spider to spider? You can breed a Bee to a Spider and vice versa or any bee combo to a spider for that matter. :rolleye2:

It's not that you can't do it, it's just you don't have a chance at offspring that are better than the parents.
There has to be that "chance" at something new every season to keep the juices flowing. It might only be a small shot at something cool, but that "chance" is why most people do this I would think.
