    craigslist etiquette?
    Question:

I posted a craigslist ad to give away a free item.

    I had about 45 responses.

The first person who replied got what I was offering.

Is it bad etiquette to ignore the other responses? It would take a LOT of time to reply to all the inquiries.

In retrospect I should have charged a modest $10 or $20

You could always edit your original post and say "taken", or just remove it all together. Your email remains anonymous (unless you gave it out). With so many, I wouldn't lol.

TBH that would be up to your own discretion. If I were you, I'd answer them first come first serve, and when I have something else to do / don't want to reply to them anymore I let them wait, and continue later or the day after. If they're posting on CL they can't expect you to live on your computer all the time to just wait for their post, so they can wait. Just my $0.02

I agree unless you put your email address on there I would just go back and delete the posting. If they really wanted it they will look for it and see the post is gone.
If you gave out your email then I would just wait for those that email you a second time and tell them sorry its gone to the first person to contact you.

This is how I handle it.
I never give out my name or number or email on the ad.

I use an email just for such things and after the first three emails comes in I set the auto reply to send a taken message out and don't even open them at that point.

Yeah I just use the CL annonymized email to redirect to my regular gmail acct, I already removed the post and was wondering the best course of action for the other inquiries.

    Thanks guys :D

It's kinda assumed if you don't respond, then you're not interested, or you already gave or sold it away.

    I wouldn't worry.
