Had an incident tonight..
So, I guess I should have knocked on wood after talking about the wonders of velcro the other day...I hook up my accurite to the top of the tank, with a few pieces of velcro. My Bp has sat on it before, and its supported his weight.
So tonight, I guess he sat on it, and it toppled...mind you the wires are hot glued to the tank, so its just a mess. Naga is caught against the adhesive on the back of one of the pieces of velcro, and one of the wires. I got him untangled, and I did my best not to rip or tear the velcro piece off of him. It came off. I didn't see any visible marks.Thank god, I'm home when this happened, and it didn't happen when I was in Denver, 2 days ago...I'm going to find a new place to put the accurite, probably ground level, to make sure it doesn't happen again. I was pretty shaken up by the incident, I can only imagine how stressed out he is...
How do I make sure he's ok? I didn't see any marks. What can I do to make sure. Thank you
Re: Had an incident tonight..
I'm sure he's fine. :)
Tape of any sort, including sticky-backed velcro, is not a good idea to have INside the enclosure.
Re: Had an incident tonight..
i have my accurite attached to the back glass of the terrarium via velcro but the piece of velcro is smaller then the size of the accurite so when my girl climbs on the accu-rite she's not in contact with the velcro at all and its the industrial strength adhesive so its super strong.
and for that entanglement risk that is why i ended up snipping off the corded temperature probe that was on the accurite, also cuz i use a temp gun to monitor temps so the cord really served me no purpose and posed more risks at that point.
Re: Had an incident tonight..
thats why the piece of velcro is as small as it is. the snake cant get to it even if she tried.
Re: Had an incident tonight..
that industrial strength velcro is definitely strong. it takes a bit of effort for me to remove the accu-rite (i tested it to see if it would hold up to my snake slithering over it like she does).
this is how/where my accurite is mounted. its on the back glass in the middle between the 2 water dishes...

the hide boxes have been upgraded to bigger ones since those itty bitty ones ended up being turtle shells on my snake haha.
