Countess and me vs the loud cricket
hahahahahahaha.i got a funny story followed by a question.

sooo i got fed up with that loud cricket and decided i had to do something. at first i was just going to catch the crickets and put em back but crickets are freaking hard to catch. i caught one and was going to put it back in the cricket tub then as i was about to drop it in he jumped on my desktop and ran behind the screen and modem. Now i have a cricket running around my room somewhere!!!at least it wasnt the noisemaker. so now im pissed i see the loud one.i can tell its him because he was bigger and always ranaway when i came by the scorp enclosure and acted like i was going to hit him. i decided to find the scorps and feed em to him.im done with trying to be mr.miyagi with a hemostat. so i look under the marble rock cave hiding spot on the warm side.a burrow that led to where i couldnt see. next hiding spot in the middle my snakes old terra cotta pot.bingo the female was there after i lifted the pot and she was ready to throw down and actually picked a piece bark or smashed soil that stayed a solid piece that looked like a sword and proceeded to kind of swing it.
so i try to scare the cricket by Countess and she missed everytime the cricket came by.this ruined my fun.so i caught the cricket in my hand,an arduous task.then i held the cricket between my index and thumb and presented it to Countess and she gladly took it from my fingers.
heres a lil vid, thats how much of a grudge i had with that cricket.i was gonna savor his death by sharing this clip.chirp now punk!!!!!

to add to the "mood" click on the first link and let the music play while you watch the vid since i dont know how to add music to an actual clip(maybe someone will teach me?? :) )

I don't think it really matters but if you have more noisy crickets to get rid of, then by all means lol!

When I'm feeding crickets, I know it sounds bad, but since emperors ARE lousy hunters and slow, I pull one of the hind legs off each large cricket. Pull the fake plants out of the viv to give them less places to hide, and often try to offer it via feeding tongs first. That way, if my girl doesn't take it from me, at least they will be slow enough for her to catch them and they are a lot less likely to make noise.

I wouldn't do anything like that to any other animal but it's a bug. I honestly don't think crickets feel pain due to their incredibly simple brains. Insects lose limbs all the time in the wild and it doesn't hamper them at all.

    Hi,

I have on occasion removed the back legs of locusts before feeding owing to the harp spurs.

But for crickets I found putting them in the fridge for five minutes they slowed down enough for the scorp to catch.

Haha great story! Crickets and me don't get along that well either, they made a small rebellion society in their containers and hide in the carton then try to escape en masse. Little did they know that the Empire (me) already knew the location of their base :sabduel:

Such a smart idea! Thanks for sharing! My G. Rosea SUCKS at catching crickets, I try to herd them towards her with chopsticks and she just doesn't understand lol I'll try this trick next feeding!
