And the story Begins

Hey everyone, many of you probably already know my girlfriend and I recently purchased a Biak Green Tree Python from a pet store.

upon taking it to the vet we discovered it has mites, hook worms, round worms, and more parasites than I can remember the names of.

It's dehydrated, hasn't been fed properly (was bird seed in its feces)
and is only a little one.

This is going to be where I put my updates as to what happens with the snake and us, with pictures, and possibly videos from time to time. For those who want to follow along, please hope for everyones sake that this thread has a happy ending.

That sounds so horrible, I cannot believe someone would sell you a sick animal like that :( I know you said that you knew it had mites, but all those parasites? Just look out for your ball python too, when you get the PAM you'll need to douse his cage too since the mites will surely spread to him :( I wish you luck!

So sorry it turned out this way. :( Hopefully he'll pull through it all perfectly fine. At least he's getting the help he needs now.

Have you spoken top the person who sold it to you? Did they have anything to say? I'd hate to see how the rest of their animals are doing.

Sorry this had to be your first experience with chondros. Try not to worry too much...one of my critters was a reptile show pick-up/rescue and she was in about the same condition as yours, minus the mites but plus some scale rot. She shed out the scale rot and was treated for the parasites, and never missed a meal. She always has perfect sheds and regular poops..I love her. Chin up.

Probably a wild caught individual, dehydration and parasites are usually a dead giveaway. Chondros are one of the snake species that still get regularly imported as WCs.

I wonder how the bird seed got into its digestive system.. did someone feed it a bird or squirrel they somehow caught by their bird feeder outside?

If it were in a mixed animal enviornment and cages were all jammed together, birds might have knocked seeds out of their cages into the snake's. Whatever they were feeding the snake could have picked up some seeds as it fed, as snakes occasionally pick up stray bits of loose substrate when they feed.

Sounds to me like it's been feeding since it was imported. Once those worms and mites are under control, it could take off and really surprise you.
