Is it possible...

Have you ever come across a bp that, for whatever reason, won't take an ASF?

I have a couple of problem feeders and I've heard a hundred times if they won't eat, try an ASF and it'll work almost indefinitely. Well, my problem feeders have eaten so that seems to be proven thus far.

However, my pastel girl is another story. This little girl has NEVER missed or refused a meal and has an unbelievable feed response. the other night when cleaning out their tubs as soon as I opened hers she struck and was in feeding mode.

The next day when I brought home ASFs, she just looked at me like "uuh, wth do you expect me to do with that?!"

I am officially confused, lol! :confused:

I would say about half of my collection looked at ASFs like they didn't know what they were, so no I'm not surprised about your female's response. People tend to think ASFs are the cure all for tough feeders, but that's definitely the case. A friend of mine tried a couple ASFs with a female he couldn't get to eat and she wasn't interested in them either. I prefer to stick with mice and rats since they are easy to get a hold of and I stopped breeding ASFs.

It may be a husbandry issue! Check to make sure your temps and everything is okay. Also make sure you have nice tight fitting hides with just one opening! Every snake has it's own taste! What works for one may not work for another! Sometimes the color or sex of the prey can cause problems. Some only eat at night! It may be the size of the prey! You need to experiment and find out what works for that snake!

ive had times when one or 2 of mine stopped eating and i was feeding asf. once or twice i drop a asf in the wrong tub and she just looked at it. when i pulled it out and dropped in a rat it was grabbed b4 it hit the bottom of the tub.

so its all about your snake some like something others dont

Husbandry isn't an issue. My temps are @ 92 degrees, humidity is 55-60% raised individually when sheds occur. none of them have hides and this has never been an issue for any of them. It is purely "taste" as it seems, she prefers regular pet store rats over ASFs.

i have a female that wont eat asf rats but ony will eat mice.i tried asf and she just looked at it as if she was going to strike it but just looked the other way but as soon as i swaped it for a mouse she hit it within seconds.now i breed mice and asf rats and boy is it a job.lol have to seperate males from females when there old enough now.control breeding sucks.lol
