Does anyone make their own snake bags?

I was wondering what type of fabric you use. I went to buy material today and there are too many choices:confused:. I know that it has to be breathable. Do you use 100% cotton or have a preference for something else?

I like using the nylon shoe bags with the draw string. Nylon is very breathable, and you can use the draw string to wrap around the end and tie it off. The one I use also has some penny sized holes that the string runs through, but too small enough for the snake to fit through. My snakes been fine with it when I've had to move with her.

I make my own simply because I love using my sewing machine. I've used very thin bandanas so far, creating my own drawstring top using my sewing machine. I'd imagine cotton would be fine, it is quite "breatheable". I'm sorry I can't give you a specific material.

Shipping bags are so cheap I couldn't imagine saving any money making your own. I guess they aren't nearly as stylish ;)

Well, mine are for the transportation of my personal collection and I've made smaller ones for my little Milk Snakes. Instead of paying shipping prices for just a few, I made my own. But, you are correct, if the intent is to ship out large amounts of snakes over any period of time, it would cost around the same, if not just slightly more, to buy them in bulk and save time.

Pillow cases work great.
Tubs with tops and holes to let air transfer can also be used.

I either use a small tub with air holes or, in the case of a bag, a pillowcase (preferably cotton)

Whether making your own...using commercial bags...or using a good ol' pillowcase...be sure to turn the seams INSIDE OUT. This serves two critical purposes. One, it prevents the snake from getting tangled into any loose thread loops. Two, it allows you to inspect the seams carefully for any weakened areas. Corners are especially vulnerable to coming loose. The snake can and will push doggedly at a corner of the bag or any loose spot, until it forces an opening it can get through.

We were talking about making our own, and the whole reason would be marketing/having pretty bags for the sake of having pretty bags.

I use scallop bags they are very very cheap and huge lots big enough for my largest girl, list at 1$ each and whole sale at 35¢ it is hard to think to use anything else. They are made of an open weave cotton unbleached with no sizing. (food grade actually...)
