New baby ball python!

Hello! I finally got a ball python; something Ive wanted to do since I was a child. Things are going great so far.. She/He is adapting well, has eaten f/t twice, and is very docile. After lots of research and money spent, I have the enclosure at the correct temps, and humidity. So, here is my only concern. Last night I was handling the snake, she was hanging on to my hand and looking around, but then she seemed to slip off of my hand and fell maybe 2 feet or so from the chair i was sitting in to the ground, which is hard wood. I feel horrible about this! She seems perfectly fine, and didnt seem shaken up or display any odd behavior. Has this happened to you, and how bad is a snake fall from a low height like that? Anything I should look out for? Thanks!

I don't have any experience with this, but I would suggest leaving her alone for a few days. Falling is probably very stressful on a Ball Python. Don't freak out just yet. :) If she seems fine and eats fine on her next feeding day then I wouldn't stress too much. Just be sure if you're holding her you support her with both hands. Do not let her hold on to you without your support underneath her, she won't feel secure and this can cause unnecessary stress. We learn from our mistakes! Congrats on the new BP. Never trust a BP to hang on to anything. They are not arboreal. While some do seem to want to climb, they are notoriously clumsy and can easily fall.

He'll probably be ok. Just leave him be and keep an eye on him for a while.

My guess is that he/she is totally fine. Just be careful letting them hang around. They are very clumsy and can fall quite easy :)

One of mine fell from a chair once. It wasn't a high chair thank goodness. Hubby was supposed to keep an eye on him because the snake was in the chair behind him. Thank goodness he was ok I about had a heart attack. Always support them they are a little clumsy.

i have a large 4ft by 4ft encloser with brunches in there and they fall from the brunches all the time and have never been anything wrong with them so he/she should be fine.. if u think about them in the wild im sure they fall from higher hights then that.

Thanks everyone! i will try to be more careful overall from now on. Scared the crap out of me.. I've had a lot of pets in my life...the closest have always been my dogs; however, there is some strange connection or infatuation with this pet snake that is completely unique. I can see why people get addicted and keep buying them! I think Ill stick with one for now! haha.. thanks again everyone.

Nala, is captive hatched.. Im guessing that means she is just a normal ball python, but I swear she looks like so many other mutations ive seen. i guess i just cant tell a huge difference between some of the less obvious ones.

You would need to post a better picture here to get a definitive answer, but she looks like a normal from what I can tell. If you bought her as a normal, she is probably a normal.
As for having just one for now.. I said the same thing. ;)

My son dropped one of my ball pythons from about 2 1/2 feet, I was so nervous I called one of my herp friends and he said....."shut up Leah...he's fine".

SO I'm gonna tell you the same thing, just add your name ;)

I'd suggest leaving him completely alone for at least a week to adjust (I KNOW it's so hard...) but it really is for the benefit of the snake. Congrats on your new baby! :D

Normals are beautiful too! I like them over some of the morphs even. I have two normals, but their coloring is a bit different and so are their eyes. One has black eyes and one has brown eyes with the slitted pupil.

As for falling, they are very clumsy. My bigger one likes to stretch out to the top of the cage and usually ends up falling over backwards. Yours is probably fine, but I would definitely leave it alone for a few days to recoup. Just keep a close eye on it. As for other pets, I was letting my hedgehog crawl around on my table once... he put his head in a jar, freaked out, and fell off the table (2 ft). Hedgehogs are very fragile and he did just fine afterward. Of course, he was never allowed to roam free again :)
