Obvious paunch, still locking?
Hi,
I have a female pastel that has been bred through the entire season by a mojave male. She has been bulding for a while and has a visible paunch for the last week. I recently acquired a pastel lesser male and put him in with the girl and he locked up with her for about 48 hours straight before letting her go.
I guess what I want to know is if there is a chance that the new male while sire the clutch? Any ideas? What is the latest time before ovulation that a male can lock a female and still be the father? Does anyone have that data?
Thanks,
Brandon

The eggs are fertilized during ovulation, so any sperm that's available can potentially fertilize eggs. You may get a double sired clutch or you may get one or the other. I've heard of people having a similar set of pairings and end up with the entire clutch fertilized by a male that was in there right before ovulation.
