Trouble finding a replacement tank

I really want to replace the hand me down tank I was given, as it is kind of old and crappy. The problem is, I cannot find a replacement ANYWHERE. It is 36" long X 12" wide X 18 inches high. I would very much like this to be the last tank I buy for my guy, so I need something appropriate for a full grown adult. Any ideas on suitable alternatives to this size that will work for a full grown ball? (only 3+ feet now, but I know he's going to keep growing). I very much prefer a glass tank. That's what I have been using, I like to be able to view my snakes, and I have all the humidity and temps worked out for it.

Have you checked craigslist? Also there are display cages on reptile basics, animal plastics, etc that are not "glass tanks" but cages that display and look really clean and nice.

That sounds like a 20L but if I remember right a 20L is only 30" long

We have a 20L for the other snake, and yes it's 30"

This tank is probably from the 1970s (no joke), so something tells me it's not produced anymore. That Zilla one is pretty close. Our small tank is a Zilla too.

Are the UTH's safe on non-glass tanks? I thought they had to be on glass or they would melt the cage.

95 degrees is not enough to melt plastics:gj:

If a UTH is getting hot enough to melt plastic, it's getting hot enough to burn your snake, even through glass. This is why we always advise that under tank heaters MUST be controlled by a thermostat or rheostat. As long as you're regulating the heat properly, you can use them on plastic with no problems.

Also, if it's a male and 3+ ft, he's not going to get much bigger. Maybe a little fatter, but not much longer. A 20 gal long is perfect size for a full grown male or female. :)

I would get that UTH on a dimmer though. asap. Are you measuring the temps?

Thanks for the info. The packaging from our UTH's said NO plastic or acrylic, so I figured there must be a reason. Guess not. Our hot side is 90-92, controlled by a thermostat.

Really? 20L is big enough? It seems like he can't stretch out much anymore. I know they spend a lot of the time coiled in a hide, but he does like to roam too.

The UTH isn't on a dimmer, it's on a thermostat, set to 91 (so it fluctuates between 90 and 92). I have a digital hygrometer/thermometer that measures both sides of the cage with probes. My temps stay pretty constant, other than the several degree fluctuation.
