    FedEx Shipping Prices?
Alright, so if this question has been asked already I apologize but I was wondering what the average shipping cost is for your run of the mill hobbyist who ships several times a year? I'm beginning the process of being certified to ship and asked for a ball park figure just to get an idea and was given $75? That seems a little high to me considering all of the shipments I have received I only paid around $50. I know there are certain factors that need to be taken into account such a volume shipped per year that may determine prices but even some of the smaller shippers I have encountered have quoted me with lower prices than that. Are they simply eating some of the cost?

At the time that I set up my account, I gave my FedEx rep the link to SYR quote system and asked him to match or beat that rate (you plug in origination and destination zips, dimensions and weight of box).

I have a rate better than SYR for next day air (by 10:30). I'm not a high volume shipper.

I think their rates vary based upon how far you're shipping, but I could be wrong. I've paid between $50-$75 to have snakes shipped to me. Anything over $1000 I usually expect to include shipping.

ShipYourReptiles offers custom rates for higher volume shippers, including great rates for those with heavy heavy volume. We also have live arrival insurance launching very soon.

I have another quick question. How do the animals get from your doorstep to the other party? Is there a service where the package is picked up? If not what location (or hub/area) would one drop it off at? I'm just trying to get a general idea before I start the process.

Check out the link below for the Get Help section of ShipYourReptiles. We have worked very hard to provide easy to follow information for the first time shipper. This link takes you right to the "How do I send a package with SYR?" question, which includes info on either a driver pickup or drop off.

Read the entire section though, it covers everything from packaging materials to weather and scheduling guidelines. Let me know if you have any questions.

Robyn can you expand on your live arrival guarantee process? If an issue happens will the shipping only be refunded, or is their insurance for the price of the reptile as well. I would love to hear more when the time is appropriate.

    Thank you!

I typically pay between $35 and $65 for my overnight shipments on my fedex account. The west coast shipments are the most and stuff close to FL or in FL is around $35. I use either 12 x 9 x 6 or 7 x 7 x 6 inch boxes for pretty much everything. I am definitely not a high volume shipper. I maybe ship 20-30 packages a year.

just a quick warning to all who use FedEx.

I worked at FedEx for 10months. And the trucks i loaded constantly delivered to pet-stores, and a lot of times reptiles and fish would come through to home delivery.
The amount of packages ive seen thrown, tossed, kicked, flung etc that had the "warning live animals" was disturbing

Yep, That's why it's up to the shipper to package the animal as securely as possible. No matter what you write on the package, fedex and any other shipping company does not care and will not treat your package any differently than any other package.
