Young BP question...

Hi all!

I have just a few questions that I cannot seem to find the answers to. I am a new BP owner. I grew up with many snakes. I have just never had the chance to get my own and raise them. I have a 9week old female and a 10 week old male. I understand that every snake has a different personality but have some questions regarding the female.

The male "Diablo" is very personable. He is out and about in his aquarium and seems pretty lively after the first week. I have handled him a few times and he seems perfectly fine.
The female "Duchess" seems to be very freaked out. I have them seperated based on lots of things I have read, thats the better route. I have simply tried to fill her water bowl, trying not to scare her, and she acts like she cannot get away fast enough. It has been a week is she just adjusting a little slower? Is there anything I can do to make the transition any easier on her besides letting her be to get used to her surroundings? :confused:

They were both fed last Saturday and the female has pooped (at least I believe that is what I have cleaned out of her tank). It was a white pasty pile. LOL.
The male has yet to go potty. Also, neither of them have shed while in my care as of yet.

They all behave differently. I usually leave my new additions alone for a few weeks...Some come around quickly while others take a lot longer time.... When you do start to handle her just do it for short periods of time so you don't stress her out to bad.....

Do they have hides? Bps hide mot of the time except for a small window at night....so "lively" may be stress. A hiding bp is a happy bp. I also recommend leaving them both alone completely for a couple weeks.

Yes they both have two hides. One on the warm side and one on the cooler side of the cage.

Well if they are roaming that is generally a sign of stress. I'd leave them alone for a week or so and check their behavior and husbandry.

To a young BP you are going to be a potential predator. Being scared of you is a normal reaction.

THe white stuff is Urates. poop will look like poop. Pee will be liquid with white solids.

Have you been handling them during that first week? You should always leave new reptiles in the tank for a least a week before handling to let them settle into their new home.
