Ackie monitor, sad day

Ok well Ive been looking into getting a new reptile recently and used to have 2 awesome bps Cloe and Drake but my dad made me give them away after he picked one of them up on feeding day and well cloe likes her food:(. This was 2 days ago and he told me I can get a lizard if I pay for part of it. I like monitors and tegus theyre beautiful and intresting but I can only make a 5*3*5, I was going to put a ramp to the basking spot and then it would be a hide underneath but the only monitor comfortable in that would be an ackie and I cant afford one of those, and not a big fan of bearded dragon so Im thinking about building the tank, selling it and just sticking with my dog and turtle :( This sucks but I had to rant.

Maybe someone will have some advice on what sort of lizard would do well in the enclosure you're considering. Don't give up so quickly!

Ya she was always like that but I didnt know he was going to handle her. Sorry about the other thead I know the general gets more traffic. And Ive looked around but nothing intresting to me would work and Im not going to get a reptile and give it a bad home, I think the black and white tegus are awesome but they need more room. Thanks

If your dad flipped after a bp bite i don't think a tegu is such a great idea. How about a beardie?

If you're after a large-ish, dry environment lizard, chuckwallas might be worth looking into.

If you're willing to deal with humidity requirements, basilisks and chinese water dragons are both lovely.

Thanks for the input. My dad didnt flip he was ok with me having them but hes had a fear since he was little he got bit in the boot by a rattlesnake when he was 5 and could see the venom cominng from the fangs that luckily didnt peirce the boot. His dad shot it in the head, that would scare me to.

What the heck is a chuckwalla? And I dont think basiliks or water dragons are as happy with their owners as some monitors and tegus are.

I didn't mean it in a derogatory way - just meant that ditching them after getting tagged once is kinda severe. Especially when one considers these are not domesticated animals. I've explained to my kids early on it will happen and just relax. My 8 yo boy got tagged on the ear once by my 6' boa ;) I also got an earful, from his momma...

Getting tagged by a Tegu or Monitor is 10x worse that a BP. They are also a bit more difficult to rehome....not trying to rain on your parade....just trying to help...

Rattlesnakes...i know the feeling...almost stepped on one in sandals the other week. Posted it on here...

I understand, we didnt ditch them Im still going to see them everyday, I might even be able to say their mine but I cant breed them like I had hoped, I gave them to my aunt who is a animal nurse? or doctor? Idk She works a a animal hospital. My dad just didnt want to keep them in the house anymore.

Tegu or monitor Im guessing would hurt alot worse but even if he got bit he wouldnt mind he understands its just snakes get to him.

I googled chuckwallas theyre pretty cool some are beardie size, some alot bigger, some colored ones. Reminds me of a uromastx? But whats the care and average size?

Avg size is about 16 inches or so i think...they eat primarily veggies. They need uv like a beardie..in fact their care requirements are very similar. They are around $140 last time i saw one?
