Yolk absorption?

The first one to pip just came out of the egg last night and came out without absorbing it's yolk sack...

I'm kind of freaking out as this is my first ever clutch and I have not seen this before. He has been crawling around the tub and getting the sack covered in perlite...

Please someone help me out.:confused:

You can try putting him back in the egg however he will likely come out again so the best thing is likely to take him out of that tub, rinse him (be very gentle), then put him in a daily cup with a little water in it to keep the yolk from drying it and put the daily cup back in the incubator.

It looks like he kicked the yolk...

As in it got torn off?

As long as there is no bleeding or anything it might be ok kept on paper towels slightly damper than you would normally use but I would suggest putting up a picture for the smarter people to give opinions on first.

Since the yolk has came off, this one might become a picky eater at first but not always.

In about 5 days i would toss in a live fuzzy mouse over night and see if this gets him kick started. Do not wait for the first shed to come to offer food. If he does not eat the live fuzzy, i would assist feed it for first meal to get something in him since no yolk was absorbed.

I had a male do this last season and would only eat when i assisted him for 5 feedings then took one on his own.

It looks to have fallen off... doesn't look torn and his slit from the umbilical looks to have been sealed. I couldn't get a good pic of that. But there is a little red remnant of where it was attached.

Also, I put it in the baby "prep" rack with moist paper towels. I figured that it was better than crawling around on the perlite.

As soon as I put it in it took off to the back where the heat is. It isn't limp or weak by any appearances.

I'm sure he'll be just fine. Like rich said I'd offer him a meal a little sooner and assist feed if needed.
