    False Water Cobra Sneezing
My 2010 FWC has been sneezing a bit lately. Every now and again when im holding him he'll just let out a couple of sneezes. Sometimes I can also hear a little bit of popping and whezzing when he breaths. And the strangest thing is that sometimes when he's moving through my hands I can feel kind of like a popping at the same point inside his body very often. I use to mist his cage but I stopped doing that because he would always have a runny nose for a couple days afterwards. I have a console humidifier in my reptile room so misting shouldn't be necessary. I've heard that RI is almost unheard of in FWC but im very concerned about my little buddy. Its hard to find any info on FWC so Im hoping that some of you guy have experience with this species and can help me out.

No should have a runny nose. I'd make a trip to the vet, sounds like RI. Not as common in colubrids, but just as dangerous.

I've never had one do that. Don't mist. What's the heat? Make sure he's got a hot spot that's 90F.

Why do you say don't mist? I have the one I got from you in a 4ftx2 1/2ftx 2ft cage and its hard to get the humidity past 40% without misting. I have a large rubbermaid container filled with water in there but it still usually stays around 40-50%.

Where he lives there is humidity enough to keep them without misting. I never mist mine and their humidity varies tremendously. The room they're in has AC plus when the wind blows out here it's really dry and I've never had any problems.

FWCs inhabit a wide range of habitats is my suspicion, not all of which are always humid.

Plus when noses are runny I don't recommend it.

I've had so many people tell me different temps for for FWC's hot spot. The breeder I bought him actually told me not to even give him a basking spot. As long as my room stayed around 78-80 that would be fine. Didn't make since to me so i've had him at about 86 for his hot spot. I recently bumped it up to 88. So should I bump it up to 90 and see if he gets better?

In that range, 88-90, you should be ok.

I provide no extra heat for mine. The room varies from a low of about 76 to a high of about 84, sometimes a tad higher in summer.

I use AC almost year round so it's always dry. They do have large bowls in their tubs and I am not worried if I spill a bit when I put fresh water in. They also love to soak which also leads to some spillage which I also don't worry much about.

People think that everywhere in So. America is dripping wet humid 24/7 but it's not. Some parts are very dry during several months out of every year. There are also micro habitats and climates that these guys are easily able to move between.

Your heat should be ok, let him dry out a bit, a vet visit may be in order especially if he's wheezing. These guys are really tough.

    Keep us posted.

That does make a lot of sense, I never thought about the micro habitats and climates. It could be very wet in some areas and very dry in others. Theres just not really much info about these guys on the internet and when you do find something its hard to decipher whats correct and whats not.

I kicked his basking spot temp up to 90 and left him alone for a couple days. Day before yesterday I took him out to feed him and I could hear no wheezing sneezing or anything. I had him out for a while today and still no sign of sneezing or wheezing. I think his temps were just a little low...Do you think I should still take him to the vet? Seems to be better now:D
