Was it okay to do this?

So I made a post the other day about my pastel yb having retained eye caps. I was given some advice to put on a little mineral oil, leave it for 8-12 hours and then have her crawl through a damp wash rag. I tried that, but she didn't want to cooperate and crawl through the wash cloth. I realized that she had a lot of stuck shed on her nose as well so instead of waiting it out I helped her out and gently removed it for her. It turns out she didn't shed any of the top of her head so it was easy to remove and the eye caps came off as well. She wasn't happy with me but didn't try to bite me. Was it okay to do this?

As long as everything came off you are fine. I would bump up the humidity for the next time that your snake goes into shed, this way you will not have to go through this again.

THat is fine...sometimes if there's a little stuck shed, I'll take a warm, damp washrag and just gently rub it over the area. Once the skin gets wet, it usually just rolls right off, and the snake seems to not mind at all. Just be sure to rub in the direction the skin would normally shed off.

Cool, thank you. :) I usually do bump my humidity as soon as they start going blue, but she surprised me. I got her early last month and it took her about 3 weeks before she would even eat for me so I had been leaving her alone and missed the signs.

I tried rubbing it off with the cloth, but it wasn't working. She seemed to hate the cloth more than my fingers. My cloth might not have been damp enough for that to work.

That is fine as long as you don't force it off. If it gently comes off then that won't harm the snake! She may not be very happy with you though!!! :)

Also you should be aware that mineral oil can make the very top layer of their scales slough off.

Just so you don't panic if it happens.

That's why I advised in the other thread to put the mineral oil (a TINY bit) just on the eyecaps. It makes a heck of a mess on scales.....lol.
