    BP Neglect at Petland (shocker).
I've developed a burning hatred towards pet stores. I just went to Petland today and the neglect of the ball pythons almost had me in tears. It's the aquarium adventure one in Schaumburg, IL.

^There are two in there. The big one is in the cave hide, which only has enough room for him, and the small one has no choice but to be exposed. There was a kid banging on the glass when I got there and the mom acted like it was cute. They don't even cover the whole surface with substrate. It's hard to see without looking, but there are also shreds of skin all over, along with a urate to the left of the small one. There is some nasty thing growing in the water, probably algae. Every single water bowl had that stuff in it. There were more water bowls like this in other displays. Some had feces in them, and one was empty.

^This animal is the smallest and skinniest BP I've seen. Her breathing looked labored and she looked very dehydrated and weak. Appears very close to death and nobody is willing/able to help her. They have her labeled as a Spider Ball and are asking $180 which is essentially sealing her doom. She is clearly not a spider and even somebody who knows nothing about snakes could tell that she is very sick. Just a very sad situation that ruined my day. Hopefully I didn't ruin yours because I didn't mean to. I just want to show how common this really is.

Definitely wouldn't expect anything different from Petland. This is the place that gets all of their dogs from puppy mills, and will lie to you and say they come from local reputable breeders. I wouldn't give that company a dollar of my business if my life depended on it.

That's sad that some pet stores are like this. :(

Nah those PETA are more concerned about rodents being snake food.

They are. PETA wants to shut down the entire pet industry. And this is how they see the entire industry.

What is that a pastel? Yeh im not suprised either, i had a friend of mine buy a ball a few years back and he did not know it until he had it for a few days but it was infested with mites, he took it back to petland, and it just so happens they got a new batch of babys in, and they exchanged the BP he had with another of the new ones, and guess what, the babys were infested too.

Unfortunately pet stores are few where i live so i have no choice but to give them my business , but i would never buy a reptile from them.

You DO have a choice. Buy from a responsible breeder, buy supplies online.
I do not give the Petstores in my area money. At all. There's absolutely no reason to. I don't like their practices so I'm not going to support them.

I don't understand why pet stores do this. They wouldn't buy an animal in that condition for themselves. I would let somebody know in that store that they wont get your business any more and that you will be sure and tell your friends not to shop there any more either.

peta doesn't want anyone to have pets. period. plus if they had it their way all animals would be vegan.

Sadly these conditions look better than most of the pet stores around me...but what are you going to do? If it doesn't have fur no one seems to care.
