    Winter Anorexia in Amsterdam
    Hi all,

My 3yr old female ball python has not eaten since October.

I understand it is normal for some snakes, esp female, to stop eating during the winter, especially here in Europe where temps can be low in winter, and there is a huge difference in daylight hours between the seasons. The knowledgeable lady in the reptile store told me that its "normal" and she will start eating again at the end of april.

We're now getting into may, and the weather has been unseasonably warm, and she is still completely ignoring food, and, apart from moving between hot and cooler side she is completely inactive.

Does anyone have any experience of "winter anorexia" and should I be concerned?

    Thanks from Amsterdam.

I have had many ball pythons go off feed during the winter. I would not worry too much about it. As long as your husbandry is right, she should start eating again for you soon.

7 months is not that serious then?

are there any particular reasons why they start feeding again? warmer weather? longer days?

    Thanks!
