    Cal kingsnake with open vent?
I just got this new California kingsnake and from the first time I held him, his vent seemed to be half open, swollen, and red. The shop assured me it was fine and I bought him. Still, when I hold him, his vent opens somewhat and most of the time white stuff leaks out. I've gotten him out of the cage, he's "leaked", I put him back in for him to do whatever he needed to, got him back out, he "leaked", etc. for like 3 more times. So he's doing it a lot, for whatever reason.

Any answers as to what's going on with the vent and the leaking? Oh, and, it's not red and swollen anymore, just leaking and open.

    Thanks. Gracias.

He's musking and/or releasing urine/urates on you. Not uncommon for a King Snake who's being defensive.
