Fly problem in rat breeding room.

I live un SW florida and I breed ASF rats. I have a rack with five concrete mixing tubes with a 1.2 ratio and about 50-75 grow outs in two different tanks totaling about 70 gallons. I try not to keep the door open very often but sometimes I have to let some fresh air in. Flies are all around and I'm seeing little worm larva in the bedding that is wet or the spoiled corner. What can I do to prevent this? Thanks for any advice you have.

How often are you cleaning the bins?
And if you're noticing soiled spots maybe try taking care of those quickly. Try spot cleaning? And hopefully after a little while of staying on top of the bins and making sure they're constantly in pristine condition, the flies will be no more!

I usually use fly tape...although the anoles and dragon flies love living in my back yard when I open up the rat room for a few days....unfortunately so does the big raccoon mom that lives behind my house. I ended up installing an exhaust fan in mine to make it so I can continually run the a/c and not have to open the doors as much. And clean often...it won't get rid of the flies but it will get rid of the larvae.

I spot clean the rat cages literally everyday. I use a shopvac and suck up the corner they are pissing in. I also use fly tape and it's getting a lot of them but they just keep coming in.

Fly strips hanging around, and clean more often. There shouldn't be wet soiled bedding in your bins bad enough that flies lay eggs in it, and there are larvae. . . That means you aren't cleaning enough.

Scoop out all of the bedding and larvae (gag) and put in new bedding. If you get kiln dried pine flakes, the flies shouldn't like it as much as other beddings. :gj:

EDIT: Also, put some screen in the windows to keep the flies out when you open them.
