Spidey's second meal, wood chips mishap

Just fed my Spidey for the second time yesterday. On his first strike, he missed, got scared coz he got a lot of wood chips in his mouth instead, took the rat out to give him time to swallow the chips :( he had a hard time, I thought he was going to choke, he tilted his head upside down like a bad spider wobble, after a few minutea though, she swallowed the chips, placed the rat back inside and Bang! This was the biggest rat I had and he took it easily :) Felt good!!

Although I wasn't able to record the strike, got some good close up shots. Had some Japanese friends also to watch him eat lol :)

I wouldn't feed her on wood chips if she is ingesting them. I just wouldn't risk it. Newspaper or paper towels is cheap and safe. If you did not want to switch bedding material you could either try feeding her in an empty box or put a towel down in 1/2 of her enclosure and put the rat in on the towel side.

I feed in the enclosure and my snakes are all on loose bedding. Occasionally one will take in a couple wood chips, and it's seriously not the end of the world. As long as it isn't a crazy amount that they're taking in, they can handle it. Ball pythons are opportunistic hunters and they'll sometimes take carrion, which is obviously on the ground. If they couldn't handle a couple wood chips, then they never would have made it with that kind of a lifestyle.

Snakes aren't dumb. If they have too many wood chips in their mouth, I highly doubt that they'll swallow them. Try not to worry too much.

When I got my snake about a month+1 week ago, it wouldn't eat.

I have a separate feeding tank and it wouldn't take any.

So I decided to make it as comfortable as possible. On the first feeding, I didn't handle the snake for 5 days, I opened his tub, removed the water dish and hide and put the rat in there, he took it and I was very happy.

So I followed this on the second feeding here. Instead of moving to a separate tub, which I think will stress him out, I fed him in his tub.

Hopefully after 8 feedings. I will start feeding him on a separate feeding tub again.

I just got scared with the way he ate it. I even tried to take it out with my forceps but he wouldn't let me. Spidey hasnt wobbled for a long time, and I felt this was really stressing him out.

Good think he ate the rat right after, took all my worries away after that.

Is that pine you have him on?

My spider did that one time.. And i usually take out her water bowl and hide so she has more room to strike.. When it happened i put the water bowl back in her tub and she got in it and immediately started deathrolling like a croc!!:O

But after she got them out she took down 2 small rats!:gj::cool:

Nope, these are chemical free hamster/rabbit/reptile beddings that you buy in a block. I will check the package later for the exact type.

your snake didnt take a bite from the rat on it's mouth/face area? it looks like the rats got ahold of your snake in the choke/kill pic.
and theres some blood visible in the 1st swallowing pic as well...
eh could be me just worrying.
the only time i've ever seen blood during one of my girl's feedings was when she had nabbed the rat on its face and her teeth punctured one of the rat's eyes but even then there wasnt more then a drop of blood and that was only just smeared on the rat's fur.
i'm not trying to scare anyone or cause any kind of upset, i'm just saying...
