Hissing/Squeaking but eating like a black hole...

So my girl has been on a bit of a hunger streak that just recently ended. She at last sunday for the first time, but kept poking her head out, so I fed her another which she also devoured. Thursday, she at 3 more, and tonight, she was once again S'ing up her neck just outside of her hide(her typical feed me behavior) and sure enough she ate in seconds. I usually thaw in warm water and then heat a little extra under the heat lamp on top of the tank... she stretched all the way across the tank with what seemed like half her body just to reach towards the snake.

The mice are a little small(I have five left in the bag before upping the size) but at 30g for a 500g snake, I think feeding two shouldn't be bad, but I'm surprised she's eating this much now.

The other thing is she's been making a noise that sounds like squeeking, but I'm assuming is hissing. It's not constant and she did it earlier when I remove her hide for a second. She'll do it sometimes when I put her back in the tank while she roams, but then stops.

The reason I'm explaining all this is she's shown no other signs of an RI, but the noise makes me nervous. But if she had an RI would she be eating like that?

So to revive this thread with some updates:

She's now eating rats, so eating isn't an issue at all.

However she's still making that squeaking noise. I recorded a quick video(cell phone quality, but it should get the point across) and for the first minute and a half, she's quiet, but around 1:40 she starts the squeaking noise (you'll need the volume up high).

What is this and is it bad? Or is that just her saying put me in my tank, I'm done playing?

Hey, I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I'd like to add myself to this question. My boy Axel does this as well, in shorter bursts (and not all the time either) He eats like a horse, has no other signs of an RI, and has done it since a couple days after I purchased him. my temps the first few days were either far too hot or cold (poor guy) and I freaked out I had given him a cold or something...but several weeks in at fairly steady temps, he still does it. I usually can barely hear it, unless he's near my head. I worry, but he seems otherwise healthy and happy. mouth is nice and pink, normal behavior not stressed...I just don't know what to think.

To me it just sounds like wheezing due to air being forced through a tight space. Possibly due to stuck shed in a nostril. How long has it been going on?

I forget exactly when, but I want to say the end of April. It had been going on a few days before my original post. Started sometime before her most recent shed and didn't go away afterwards. 5/1 was post shed.

Any history of RI? My first BP got over an RI and had a near permanent wheeze ever since, but was otherwise healthy for years.

This sounds like when my snake is stressed from me holding him. He is often breathing heavier and it makes noises. I can hear the whistling throughout the whole clip.

No history of RI or any other sickness. I'm kind of leaning towards it just being stress and a sign she wants to go back in her hide, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't something serious.

My young female did this. Then it went to this little popping sound a few weeks later.. then to RI:mad:

Not saying its what your snakes has. It can be a stuck nose shed.. Best thing to do is just leave her be for a while so she can become less stressed. With my female all i did was put her in a tank in a separate room and leave her be.. just cleaned and disenfected her tank once a week.. She is all better now..

i would prolly try giving her a soak in warm water just at the chance that it is the nose shed and it will help it come off.

BTW.. not once did she stop eating!:D

When was the last shed?

When they start their shed it starts in the nostrils and nose area in general, and can cause them to make funny breathing noises including whistling.
