Looking to get a new TV!

OK everyone, I'm in the market to get a new TV soon, and I would just like to get your input as to what to buy. The size I'm looking at is 46"-51". The tough choice is deciding to get LCD, LED-LCD or Plasma. It will be going in our living room with a one pretty big window and want to keep price around $1200.00. So If you could tell me what you have and how you like it, that would be a big help!

I have a 55" Samsung LED Tv and I love it!!!!!!! I got it on sale at best buy for a killer deal at the time. They are probably cheaper now. I also paid for the 4 year (or whatever it was) service plan just in case because you never know. With an investment like that it's best to get the service plan if you can IMO.

I should note that I have a 40" samsung lcd TV also (had that first) and the picture quality on my LED TV KILLS the picture on the LCD TV by a loooooong shot. Especially the picture quality on DVD's, Blue Ray or anything HD!!!

I have one LCD TV and one Plasma TV. The Plasma TV reflects light coming in through the windows and unless it was going in a basement or somewhere windowless, I wouldn't get a Plasma type.

I have had 3 LCD TVs.

1) 42" Hewlett Packard - They no longer make it but it was a great TV when we bought it. I watched an hour and a half of the world series when we first got it, I really hate baseball.

2) 42" Samsung Auquios (not the Quattro) - Its a good TV but I feel like there are better TVs for the $$$$

3) 60" Sony Bravia - I will not buy another TV brand but sony after this TV. I must say it is crisp and smooth and has never let me down.

I would not buy a 3D TV ever because it gives me, my wife, and my son head aches. I have heard a lot of people get headaches from the 3D TVs. Plus you have to have glasses for each person and those things aren't cheep.

Watch out for plasmas, theyll burn out faster than the other two.

LED-LCD will give you best brightness, color, and life, though they are more expensive. I have a Sony Bravia (42-inch i think) and it's a wonderful TV. We paid exactly $1200 for it, actually.

I agree, don't get a plasma. I would go with the LED LCD. We have a 4 year old 42' Sanyo LCD and love it. We aren't sure about what brand our next TV will be, but it will definitely be an LED LCD.

If I were you I would get the biggest screen you can afford even if you have to save up a bit longer. I bought a 46" Samsung a few years ago and I really want a 55-60" LED, but I (*cough* my wife *cough*) can't justify the expense since I already have a decent LCD :P

I bought a 32" LCD back when even that size was expensive ($1700 retail at the time, but hooray for employee discounts, I paid more like $1100 because we were allowed to buy stuff for cost, and yes, at least early on in the product cycle, margins on TVs were HUGE.)

Mine is a Samsung, and I've been very happy with it.

To the poster above who said they had an Aquos, IIRC that's actually Sharp, not Samsung, but they're also very nice. If I were in the market for a new TV now, I'd definitely be after an LED LCD (probably another Samsung), as they have several advantages - they're brighter, thinner, have great color, and the backlight doesn't have mercury in it, so when you eventually do have to get rid of it, you're not doing as much to hurt the environment.

I haven't looked into the 3D TVs much yet, but I'm not sure I feel great about the idea of having to wear glasses to watch TV, so those may be a bust for me in general.
