It's A Boy!! (Miniature donkey foal) DUW
Faith, one my my jennets, had her foal last night! :)
An adorable little black male.
Faith's been a tricky one to breed. This is only her second foal, she hadn't been bred previous to me purchasing her. She was my very first miniature donkey, I purchased her from a Texas breeder about 5 years ago. Her first foal was a jenny, now she's given me a cute little jack! Seems like she has the tendency to produce the darkest foals I've seen.
He literally came up and climbed into my lap :P
(Please excuse me looking like a mess  )

Lol, I definitely was! I was in the middle of having a conversation with someone when my brother interrupts to tell me there's a baby in the stall. Had to quickly schedule a visit with my vet, deal with the afterbirth, and just make sure he was nursing and seemed fine. :) Looks good to me, but I won't know for sure until the vet comes on Monday.
This jenny, Faith, likes to pretend she's not pregnant then suddenly pop out a foal out of nowhere. She shows absolutely no signs of pregnancy until about one week before birth, so she always misses her pre-foaling shots. :hmm:

Question how big do miniature donkeys get?
To be considered "miniature" they can't be any taller than 36 inches (at the withers, average is around 33 inches), and they typically weigh 250-450 pounds. As newborns you can easily pick them up and carry them, they're so lightweight. :)

This girl is the complete opposite! She's always skinny, she barely gets a baby bump and it's so small you have to pay close attention to even notice it. The only reason I knew she was pregnant this time was because a couple weeks ago I notice her udder was slightly swollen so I palpated her sides and managed to get the foal to kick a bit inside.

They're almost always born with fluffy poofs on their forehead lol, it's so adorable. The little guy is almost the spitting image of his sire, "Black Flag".

You should! I had around 12 at one time, but have cut the herd down to two of my best jennets and one stud.
